Use Math30 & Math31 Strategically

Facts about Math30:

  • Almost All faculties either accept or require Math30 as one of the five appropriate subjects
  • Unlike Engish30 exam, which relies heavily on graders' subjective judgments, Math30 is relatively easy to obtain a good score
  • Majority of students are lagging in Math30; only 22.1% received Standard of excellence (80marks or above) in 2002/2003 Diploma Exam.
  • There are ample exercise materials for Math30 Diploma Exam
  • University students with less than 70% in Math30 will have to take extra course (Math011) or participate in Mathematics Diagnostic Test in order to enroll in Math249 (Introductory Calculus)
*Math249 is strategically useful in faculty choosing!

Facts about Math31:

  • All faculties accept Math31 as one of the five admitting subjects. Thus, it can be used strategically to open up options if students have yet to decide their faculty choices.
  • Math249 (Calculus I) is mandatory for 85% of first year university students
  • Unlike Engish30 exam, which relies heavily on graders' subjective judgments, Math31 is relatively easy to obtain a good score
  • There are ample exercise materials for the Math31 curriculum
