To help explain what our current high school math curriculum is all about, let’s look at the diagram
Source: Alberta Learning
- -1 curriculum leads to higher education. In other words, all programs at accredited universities (U of C, U of A, etc.) in North America have Math30-1 as the Core math entrance pre-requisite
- -2 curriculum leads to a much more restrictive higher education choice. In other words, only some programs at accredited university and colleges (SAIT, MRU, etc.)
- -3 curriculum leads to trade and direct entry into workforce immediately finishing high school
Out of the three curriculums, -1 is the most useful and fruitful. Although some students may find it challenging, we only see mature students returning to take the -1 stream after graduating with -3.
